Reel Warriors Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting veterans, particularly those returning from deployment or transitioning to civilian life. It was founded by combat veterans from various branches who share a passion for fishing. The foundation’s primary focus is to provide a network of support for veterans, offering them a brief respite from daily life through offshore fishing trips, golf tournaments, and outdoor adventures[1].
The organization was co-founded by Nicholas Piscitelli and Joseph Hummel. Nicholas Piscitelli, who joined the United States Army in 2002, served as a medic with light infantry units and was deployed to Iraq three times. After his service, he pursued higher education, majoring in Health Sciences and Philosophy at Chapman University. Joseph Hummel served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999-2004 as a Helicopter Crewchief and traveled to over 11 countries, including a service stint in Iraq in 2003[2].
The Reel Warriors Foundation organizes various events, including the “Fins & Fairways” Memorial Day Weekend Fishing and Golf Tournament, which combines fishing and golf[3]. These events provide veterans with an opportunity to engage in recreational activities while connecting with fellow veterans.
The organization relies on the financial support and contributions of its partners and benefactors. The Reel Warriors Foundation extends a special thanks to its Marlin Donors, including the Piscitelli Family, for their significant contributions[4][5].
The foundation has had a profound impact on the lives of many veterans. Participants have expressed gratitude for the positive changes the organization has brought into their lives, especially in aiding recovery from PTSD and providing a sense of brotherhood through shared experiences[1:1].
